Clementine Hunter’s "Baptism in the River" is a vibrant, narrative masterwork of Southern Folk Art. Set against a brilliant backdrop of sky and greenery, the painting illustrates a reverent procession of candidates in white robes journeying from a white-steepled church down to the water for baptism. With her characteristic flattened perspective, rich brushwork, and poignant storytelling, Hunter transforms a cherished rural tradition into an enduring symbol of faith and community.
This origional oil on board painting is ready to hang in a wooden frame with decorative carving and gold leaf finnish.
