CLARK HULINGS
American, (1922 - 2011)
Clark Hulings was more than a "Western artist"; he was a world-traveling intellectual whose work bridged the gap between commercial illustration and fine art. Educated in both physics and painting, Hulings found his greatest inspiration in the landscapes and people of the American Southwest.
His paintings capture the quiet beauty of daily labor and indigenous cultures. He is particularly remembered for his depictions of donkeys, using their patient demeanor as a symbol of human endurance. Over a prolific career, Hulings earned prestigious honors, including the New Mexico Governor’s Award, and remains a giant of American realism whose work is held in major museum collections.
