"Playing the Zither", Chinese Ink Painting with Text "The Whole World is Happy"

$7,500.00Price

A handmade copy after 范曾 Fan Zeng (Chinese, born 1938) painting titled "Playing the Zither", by 謝 Xie 天成 Tiancheng of 寥天閣 Chamber of Boundless Sky.

The Calligraphic Text "天下都樂" translates to "The Whole World is Happy", dated 辛未年秋 (autumn of 1991).

This panoramic Chinese ink and color painting portrays a serene gathering of four figures within a dramatic natural landscape. The scene unfolds across a rocky, mountainous terrain, with gnarled trees and pines clinging to the cliffs on the left, and a waterfall cascading on the far right. The foreground features two seated men. One man, a bearded sage with bared chest and flowing robes, appears contemplative or in discussion. The other man is engrossed in playing a stringed instrument called a guqin, similar to a zither. Standing to their left is a younger man in light aqua robes, observing the scene. To the right, a female figure in elegant pink and white robes with an orange sash reclines gracefully, engaged in the company. The brushwork for the landscape is dynamic, with washes of grey and black defining the rock formations and expressive strokes for the foliage, while the figures are rendered with more delicate lines and vibrant color accents. Chinese calligraphy and a red seals are visible in the upper right, adding to the authenticity and cultural context of this tranquil scholarly or artistic gathering in nature.

The piece is protected in a black, acrylic frame
