An evocative figural composition reminiscent of an ancient fertility object, or Mother Earth deity, depicting a pregnant woman carved from natural dark-hued rock. In the creation of this piece Sculptor, Duff Browne, employs the natural shape of the rock the which remarkably resembles the silhouette of a pregnant woman. He strategically shaped the figure's torso to render the form of her full, pregnant belly, great with child. The smooth, rounded polish of the figures abdomen emerges in contrast to the rough, earthy texture of the natural stone. The figure's arms embrace her abdomen in a tender, motherly gesture. Her figure leans in contrapposto giving the piece a sense of life-life like motion and weight.
