The rectangular picture plane can hardly contain energic mark-making in this pastel drawing! The piece captures a luminous coastal scene with an active and bold approach. The piece is composed of brightly colored pastel on black illustration board background, which makes the colors intensely vibrant. The composition features a rocky shoreline in the foreground with large, rounded rocks in warm tones of orange and brown. The rocks suggest a human abdomen and limbs, providing the piece with an "Earth Mother" theme that nestles among fresh, green pine trees. In the distance, the shining blue ocean meets a clear sky, both rendered with dynamic, diagonal strokes that create a sense of movement. A few evergreen trees rise from the land on the left, their dark color providing a strong contrast to the bright sky and water.
