Don Ward was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1947. He graduated from Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California in 1973. He worked as a freelance illustrator and in the field of Outdoor Pictorial Advertising until 1985. He then moved to Taos, New Mexico to pursue a career in fine art. Since 1987, Ward has been conducting the Taos Sketch Group. He has been teaching oil painting classes twice a week. For the past two years, he has been invited to participate in the Taos Impressionist Show. His work was also presented in the 1991 Taos Invites Taos exhibition.
"Art is an idea. Almost everyone has a different idea of what art is… Today there are no rules. All that is left are choices. For me that choice is beauty and truth... Realism can be found through interpretation, and be an expression of how it is perceived. And, whether it be a scene of nature, a person, or a bowl of fruit, I strive to express my interpretation of that beauty."
